Adult Formation Schedule

This winter and spring the Adult Christian Formation (“Sunday School for Grown-Ups”) will be discussing A People’s History of Christianity by Diana Butler Bass. You do not need to read the book to participate in this class! If you can only come occasionally, that’s okay too.

We meet Sundays at 9:15 in Campbell Hall. Join us for enlightening and informative discussions!

Youth Activity Night

The youth group has an activity night scheduled tomorrow, Friday February 17.

We will gather at the church at 5 for a meal, then go ice skating and finally watch a movie on the big screen back at the church.  The evening should be over by 11 pm.  Invite your friends!

Temporary Staff Reassignment

As many of you know, our youth director, Estelle Beatty has broken her foot.  She had surgery to insert pins earlier this week and is not to put any weight on her foot for a month.  Please keep her in your prayers as she continues to heal.

Please keep Fr. Birch in your prayers as well as he will be assuming most of her duties with Sunday School and the Youth Group.  No doubt some things will fall through the cracks until the situation stabilizes and he asks your patience as he take on this ministry for a time.

Lenten Formation Opportunities

A. Beginning Tuesday Feb 28 the Tuesday afternoon Renovare group will be sponsoring a meditation group in the nave and chapels.  The group will gather at 4:30 pm each Tuesday during Lent.

B.  Beginning on Wednesday Feb 29 at 2:00 pm I will lead a discussion group in the Guild Room centered around Walter Brueggemann’s “Embracing the Prophets in Contemporary Culture.”

C. Also beginning on Wednesday Feb. 29 Dr. Tom Davis of the Whitman Philosophy Dept. will be leading a discussion in the Library of the Parables of Jesus.  The group is targeted toward young adults (H.S. seniors – 30′s) but is open to any.  Although an expert in the area, Dr. Davis is not a Christian.  As the Bible frequently reminds us, however, wisdom and revelation are not limited to Christians.  A different perspective can shed new light on old ideas.

Remember that you are dust . . .

Ash Wednesday is February 22.  As is our tradition, we will have three services of Holy Eucharist with the imposition of ashes:  7:00 am, 12:10 pm, and 7:00 pm.

I will also have ashes downtown in the vicinity of Heritage Park for any, Episcopalian or otherwise, who would like to receive them.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 11:15 HEALING SERVICE WILL NOT BE HELD ON ASH WEDNESDAY.

Youth and their families are invited to gather in Campbell Hall before the service for a VERY simple supper and some discussion of Ash Wednesday and Lent.
